(PORTSMOUTH, NH)-Growing ever more out of touch with New Hampshire, John Sununu yesterday voted against government-supported stem cell research.

    Despite Sununu's opposition, the Stem Cell Research Enhancement Act of 2007 (S. 5) passed in the Senate yesterday 63-34.  However, President Bush has indicated that he will likely veto this bill.  Sununu was the deciding vote against a veto-proof majority.

    "By failing to support stem cell research, John Sununu and George Bush continue to fight against breakthroughs in the treatment of diseases affecting millions of Americans, including cancer, Parkinson's Disease, and Multiple Sclerosis," said Steve Marchand, Portsmouth Mayor and candidate for U.S. Senate.

 "The people of New Hampshire understand the promise of stem cell research.  This is yet another example of John Sununu being out of touch with New Hampshire values."

    A January SurveyUSA poll of likely New Hampshire Primary voters shows that the 62% of Republicans and 89% of Democrats support stem cell research.
